Ms. Jakkel is the Associate Orchestra Conductor and Director of Strings at the Miami Arts Charter School in Homestead, Florida. Born into a musical family, Hungarian violinist Julia Jakkel began her musical studies at the age of five. Ms. Jakkel has a background in playing piano and viola besides double-majoring in music theory and violin in high school. Ms. Jakkel won numerous prizes at national and international competitions during her teenage years. In 2011, Ms. Jakkel was offered a scholarship to study abroad as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student and attend Miami Arts Charter School for one academic year, where from Ms. Jakkel received her high school Diploma in 2012.
Ms. Jakkel earned her Bachelor of Music Degree, Magna Cum Laude at the Lynn Conservatory of Music, as a Teacher Assistant and student of Carol Cole. A full-tuition scholarship recipient, Ms. Jakkel earned Dean’s List honors for eight consecutive semesters during her undergraduate studies and as a result of her academic achievement, she belongs to the President’s Honors Society at Lynn University. Ms. Jakkel received her Master of Music Degree in Violin Performance at the same institution, as a Teacher Assistant and student of Guillermo Figueroa.
Ms. Jakkel has served as a violin mentor at the Lynn University Preparatory School of Music, as well as at the Nat King Cole Generation Hope Summer Strings Program for underprivileged children at Lynn University, for the past five years. In addition, she has worked part-time as a violin teacher for U.B. Kinsey Palmview Elementary School and the Plumosa School of the Arts. Ms. Jakkel played a fundraising concert for the Miami Bach Society in 2012, worked as a strolling violinist on a cruise ship in the summer of 2015, and has performed with local orchestras such as the Palm Beach Symphony and Symphony of the Americas. Ms. Jakkel’s involvement with the Rotary Club of Boca Raton Sunrise led her to perform charity concerts for the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Lauderdale in 2016 and 2017. Ms. Jakkel received her English as a Second Language Teaching Certification in June 2017.
In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering at the South Florida Hungarian Kids Club as an instructor and music teacher, and also served as the Honorary Chairperson of the Rotaract Club of Lynn University. Ms. Jakkel’s goal in life is to bring joy to all people through the gift of music.
