Nicole has had a passion for music since childhood. She has been performing in choirs, shows, and church since the young age of five. Her passion continued through high school and became a determining factor when considering collegiate options.
In 2001, Nicole decided to pursue her musical studies by attending the Florida International University Music School and majoring in Vocal Performance. Throughout her time there, she enjoyed singing in various choruses, as well as being a prominent singer in the opera workshop. During her senior year, she was the lead in two operas, “The Goose Girl” and “The Harliquinade.” She graduated in the spring of 2005.
While completing her degree, Nicole began teaching private voice at the Miami Conservatory of Music. It is here that she discovered that she could teach and that she truly enjoyed it! In 2005, Nicole moved to Orlando, Florida, to become a K–8 music teacher at Page Private School. Her duties included teaching general music classes to K–5, and chorus and musical theatre to grade 6-8. In 2005, Nicole also began working as a private voice instructor at Avalon School and Music Center. She continued teaching here, part time, until 2009. She prepared students for biannual recitals, while teaching proper voice technique, including breath control, range expansion, and vocal health.
In 2006, she taught daily five different choruses at Walker Middle School. She prepared her students for three shows a year, as well as state- and county-wide competitions. She instructed her students with skills that instilled a love and passion for music, plus lessons that would last them through the years.
In 2009, Nicole left her positions in Orlando and moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where she became a mother to two energetic little boys and continued to teach voice privately at her own studio.
In 2011, Nicole moved back to Miami and by the start of 2012, she rejoined the MCofM family as a Professor of Voice and Musical Theatre. This is her fourth consecutive year directing for MCofM. The productions she has brought to life with the talent at MCofM include: Two Mini Musical Theatre productions a year for the very young students, and for the older ones “The Princess and the Pea” (2012), “Cinderella Kids” (2013), “Seussical the Musical Jr.” (2014), “Aristocats Kids” (2015), “Annie Jr.” (2015), “Alice in Wonderland Jr.” (2016), “Into the Woods Jr.” (2016), and “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” (2017.) She loves watching the children and teens work hard to achieve their goals and grow through the process. She feels privileged to be a part of their developing passion for music and the arts.
